These continue to be a very popular item at craft shows
after almost 15 years. When I have a big selection
of them, I like to hang them on a chicken wire display
in the corner of my booth. It always happens -- a
passing shopper stops to read the sayings and starts to
giggle. Folks around her wonder what she's
laughing about so more come to read the sayings.
Pretty soon there's a crowd gathered around. It's
then that so many have found just the perfect gift for a
friend or teacher -- there's a saying to fit just about
any personality. Over the years I've collected
(borrowed or stolen perhaps might be more to the point)
sayings from many sources -- those lists of t-shirt and
bumper sticker sayings that have been making the email
rounds, greeting cards, magazines, etc. I would
truly love to give credit to whomever came up with the
sayings but for the most part it's an impossible task to
track down the author. If perchance anyone knows
the author of some of the lines I have listed please
send me an email. If it's your copyright and would
like to have it removed, just let me know and it shall
be done.
So be sure to check out the collection of sayings
below. If you're a woodworker the sayings are
great to paint on signs as well.
Anyhoo, let's get to the description of the pattern.
The Heartstrings are made in small pieces -- a head and
two arms that are simply stuffed, stitched closed and
glued to the piece in front. The hearts and stars
are cut from muslin and hand stitched around the open
edges using a double strand of embroidery floss.
Since they're relatively small and since there's a lot
of handwork involved, these make a great take-project.
Print the saying to the front using a black fine line
permanent no-bleed 02 Pigma Micron archival ink pen.
This is also a good project to use up that ever-growing
button collection. :-D
