I named this
pattern Scatter Snowmen because you can throw them onto
just about anything to add a cute primitive wintry
touch. Easy to make from Warm & Natural cotton
batting, the pattern includes four sizes of scatter
snowmen (4" to 8") to use as ornaments for the tree or
as additions to wreaths, garlands, baskets, candles,
etc. The pattern also includes the instructions to
make the 16" snow family wall hanging. The recipe
I use to tea-stain and stiffen in one step is included
in the pattern. Below are some examples of what I've
put together using this pattern. The candle wrap
is simple -- just tear a strip of coordinating homespun
and wrap it around the candle then glue or stitch the
scatter snowman to the front. The snowman cookie
plate was made using the two smallest sizes of snowmen.
Finish them up with staining and stiffening, then spray
them with adhesive and sprinkle glass glitter and they
very much resemble sugar cookies. Stamp a hang tag
"Snowman Cookies" and they make a darling display.
To make the candle lamp, I painted a chunky wooden
candle base, sanded, stained and sealed it, then glued a
2 1/2" electric candle lamp to the top of the base.
I glued on a couple of the smaller snowmen and then
added cuttings from a ming pine garland behind them.
I've made the grapevine stars with two and three snowmen
depending upon the size of the stars that have been
available. I draw wire through the backs of the
snowmen, twist it around the vine and glue a bit here
and there to hold them securely in place. For
these, I prefer to use the realistic looking angel pine,
simply yanking pieces from the garland and gluing them
into place under the snowmen. These finish off
beautifully with a coating of mica flakes.

Made by gluing four separate snow
fellows together, this will display as a single piece
measuring 15" tall. It comes out rather comical --
arms in all directions, each mitten with a snowball at
the ready. The snowmen are made from Warm &
Natural cotton batting. The snowballs can be made
out of just about any small round object lying around --
pompoms, packing peanuts... glue them into the palm of
the mitten and cover them with textured snow. Add
more snow and mica flakes and these guys will look like
they're in the mother of all snowball battles. :-)
